1819-1857: Bagyidaw

-in British Wars > First Anglo-Burmese War (1825-9)) wins really smashingly
-turns Heads of Bengal > 1821-1841 Ahmad Ali Khan into Burmese vassal
-and annexes and rules eastern Bengal directly
-this is a wealthy cash cow and helps bring boom
-goes to war in alliance with Vietnam against Siam (1833-9)
-very long war in which Siam fights ferociously against despised Burmese
-but ends with Burma and Vietnam sacking Bangkok
-Lanna becomes a protectorate under Burmese rule
-secures seaboard as far as Phuket
-this high prosperity comes to an end with British Wars > Second Anglo-Burmese War (1847-9))
-Burma loses and Bengal broken away

1857-1888: Setyka Min

-this guy
-sees a program of modernization to protect Burma from the British
-as well as other threats
-sees China's Wars > Yunnan-Burmese War (1865-8))
-war ends with Yunnan's claims over Shan states recognized
-additionally sees loss of Assam and Lanna
-now fall out of Burmese orbit
-continued program of modernization against these threats
-alliance with the French established
